Senior Process Engineer



The Senior Process Engineer (Cement) will support the process design and lead the development of the process integration, operability and control strategy, and start up/ commissioning plans, for LEILAC projects, working closely with the Calix engineering team, as well as external engineering and industrial partners. Utilising cement process understanding and experience, the Senior Process Engineer will work collaboratively to develop integrated operations plans, mapping cause and effect and systems response plans, seeking specialist control expertise where required, and obtaining buy in and agreement with the host plant operations teams.

The Senior Process Engineer is a critical role, supporting the engineering team to develop process flows and energy and mass balances for the technology, and accountable for the successful delivery of the integrated operations and control systems, from early conceptual design through to detailed design, construction, commissioning, and operations, ensuring that the work is conducted in a safe, timely and effective manner to its conclusion. The role reports to Engineering Lead of the region and can be based in North or South America.  

 

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

 

  • Continuously work with Safety, Quality and Environment, by acting as leader of Calix’s SHE, Sustainability and Governance culture.
  • Lead the development of process, integration and control systems plans 
  • Support commissioning and operations, monitor key process parameters and identify actions to deal with deviations from targets. Conduct investigations to improve performance and optimise plant operations.
  • Support the engineering team to develop CAPEX and OPEX modelling tools and cost plans
  • Support Engineering team growth and development

Desired qualifications and characteristics


The right candidate has a degree in mechanical or chemical engineer, with +10 year’s experience as a process engineer in the cement industry. This person has detailed knowledge and understanding of the cement production process, process optimisation and validation. They have strong influencing skills, are able to negotiate critical issues with top-level engineers and technical personnel of external companies. 


Other qualifications & characteristics: 

  • Previous roles working with plant-based operations, production, and technical teams.
  • Experience with process modelling and assessment of plant upgrade works
  • Experience with optimisation and trouble shooting
  • Knowledge of PFD, P&ID, EMB’s
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a confident communicator
  • Self-driven and a strong work ethic
  • Advanced problem-solving skills and ability to take the initiative, solving challenges
